What is dower?

Payment:

Mehr is typically paid by the husband to the wife either immediately after the marriage ceremony or as agreed upon in the marriage contract. It can be paid in full or installments, depending on the terms set forth in the Nikahnama.

Registration:

It is advisable to register the amount of Mehr and its terms in the Nikahnama (marriage contract) to ensure legal recognition and enforceability. This provides clear documentation of the  husband's commitment.

Enforcement:

If the husband fails to pay Mehr as per the agreed terms, the wife has the legal right to seek enforcement through the family court system in Pak. The court can order the husband to pay the outstanding Mehr amount.

Changes in Mehr:

If both parties mutually agree, the amount of Mehr can be increased or decreased changes after marriage, but this must be done through proper legal procedures and documentation.
